How To Care For Your Dentures

Dentures are a popular option for tooth replacement, and they're one of the more affordable choices available today! There are two options depending on your unique needs- full or partial dentures. After your teeth have been removed, and your mouth has completely healed, your dentist will fit you for custom dentures to be as comfortable as possible. Dentures can be difficult to get used to, but they can be very easy once you're comfortable with the process.

Maintaining Your Dentures

The best way to ensure that your dentures fit well over time is to care for them properly. Here are some tips on how to care for your dentures:

  • Avoiding letting your dentures dry out by placing them in your cleanser or solution when you are not wearing them. You should also avoid using hot water on your dentures because it can cause them to warp and become less comfortable to wear.
  • Be careful when handling your dentures- they can be easily breakable, so you want to avoid dropping them onto the floor.
  • Dentures need brushing, just like your natural teeth. You should be sure to brush your dentures daily to remove any buildup from food and to prevent staining on your dentures. Manual brushing, as opposed to cleaning tools for your dentures, is the best way to keep them clean.
  • You'll also want to keep your gums and entire mouth clean before and after using your dentures. This ensures that they continue to fit properly, helps remove plaque, and stimulates tissue to prepare your gums for denture use.

Dentures in Pikesville MD

Keep in mind when caring for your dentures that if you do break your dentures, or if they become loose, you should contact your dentist immediately. Getting your dentures fixed as soon as possible will ensure that no further damage is caused to your mouth or your dentures.

This treatment can be a great option for patients who need full tooth replacement for multiple or all of their teeth. If you have any questions about dentures, or if you'd like to schedule an appointment to consult with our dentist, give us a call today for more information! Our team is always happy to answer any questions that you may have, and we can get you in to see our dentist immediately to get a better idea of the best treatment options for your needs.
