How do I take care of my dentures?

Dentures and partial dentures are a practical alternative to tooth loss, and we offer quality dentures in Pikesville, MD. If you’re considering dentures or have recently acquired them, you may wonder about care.

At Naylors Court Dental Partners, we always provide instructions on how to care for your new dentures or partials. It’s important to remember that dentures are breakable and should always be handled with care.

As a rule, you’ll want to spend a few minutes each day cleaning your dentures to keep them free from stains and bacteria. You should rinse them with water after eating. We also recommend brushing your dentures with a soft denture brush at least once every day, typically before bed. You can use a denture paste, but toothpaste is too harsh.

You should also soak your dentures in a denture bath during the night—using either warm water alone or with denture cleaning tablets. It’s important to keep the denture moist, so it retains its shape.

If you notice cracks in your denture, it’s important to contact your dentist. Cracks can allow bacteria to accumulate or lead to a broken denture.
